Artist Statement:
When I take the time to look, the common becomes uncommonly
interesting. I experience beauty in a crow feather, the sound of
creaking eucalyptus branches, water running over stones, or the
patterns in the earth at my feet. Natural objects offer my senses a
rich and endless variety of patterns and textures.
No paint or brushes were used to create these pieces. Instead, I work
with my hands using clays, hot wax, leaves, sticks, stones, and metals.
In the end, I want the viewer to see the grit, the sand, to experience
an unfinished quality. Balancing this rawness with man-made materials,
I add pieces of rice paper with delicate fragile patterns, or metals.
These materials become symbolic of order woven into chaos
