Bruce Bleach

Bruce R. Bleach was born in Monticello, N.Y., in 1950. After graduating from high school in 1968, he received the following degrees:

A.A., Orange County Comm. College, Middletown, N.Y., 1970

B.F.A., University of Hartford, Art School, Hartford, Ct., 1972

M.F.A., S.U.N.Y. at New Paltz, N.Y., 1974, with a Teaching Assistantship in Printmaking.

Since then, Bruce has worked independently as an artist, teacher, and part-time musician. His career as a fine artist has spanned 30 years. After spending 6 years at Robert Blackburn’s Printmaking Workshop, in N.Y.C., he established his own studio in the city. He subsequently moved to New Rochelle,N.Y., then to Goshen where his work continues in the home/studio he shares with his wife Joanne and their 3 daughters. Bruce’s work includes etchings and monoprints, paintings, and large wall sculpture in etched bronze, aluminum and wood. He has been an adjunct prof. at O.C.C.C. in Middletown, N.Y. for the past 14 years in the Arts and Communication Dept. where he recently did a lecture/discussion series on the Business of Art, and a faculty show.

 Listed in “Who’s Who in American Art”, Bruce’s work has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions, galleries, publications, and collections throughout the country and abroad.

 Two of Bruce’s etchings have recently been selected by the Smithsonian Institute, Library of Congress Print Collection.

TEACHING 

Bruce R. Bleach is currently teaching 4 courses per semester for The Arts and Communication Dept. of Orange County Community College, Middletown, N.Y. He has been an Adjunct Prof. at OCCC for over 14 years, teaching approx. 25 credits per year in Drawing I, Drawing II, Painting, Intro to Art, Design, Color and Printmaking (part of Drawing II).

Bruce has also been involved in preparing students for transfer to 4-year schools, with an emphasis on portfolio presentation. He also advises students about job opportunities relating to the Arts.

In 2002, he was invited to conduct a series of round table discussions/lectures at the college regarding The Business of Art, by the Club 4 the Arts students. Topics included: Art as A Career, Marketing Your Work, and Job Opportunities. The event was held at the Harriman Student Gallery. He has also helped coordinate student art shows, advised for the student organization Club 4 The Arts, and exhibited work in faculty shows.
